The Weekend [Jan. 11th, 2009|08:06 pm]

Saturday I did a little laundry, used the Wii Fit, balanced my checkbook, paid some bills, put away some dishes, and cleaned out the fridge, freezer and pantry. That last item took 3 full trash bags. What a waste! We've got to be better about eating our leftovers before they go bad or get struck with a bad case of frostbite. But I'm glad I organized everything. Now I can actually see what we do have.

We also went to visit my brother for haircuts. Casey sold 4 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to his co-workers. He's going to talk to his bf and get back to me with his own order.

And we watched 3 more episodes of Angel. No more Doyle, boo. Did you know the actor who played him died of a heroine overdose 3 years after leaving the show? What a shame. He was 32.

Sunday we went to church and then breakfast at Mimi's with my parents, and then my mom took Casey to a new store called Tilly's. Her friends had been there and told her the clothes were exactly her style, so she really wanted to check it out. Grandma is usually the one who takes her clothes shopping because mom is poor. So they went there while I went to Walmart, which on a busy Sunday afternoon like today made me want to shoot myself in the face. GAWD. You can't even walk down the aisles, that place is so crowded. I spent half my time there waiting for idiots to get the hell out of my way. I need to strike it rich soon so I never have to go there again.

I got home shortly after Casey did. She wasn't all that impressed with the store, but still managed to pick out a pair of pants and 2 shirts. I put away the groceries and emptied and refilled the dishwasher for the 2nd time in 2 days while listening to my child have a full on drama queen meltdown about doing her math homework, and how it hurts her head so much, and can she PLEASE PLEASE PALEEEEASE just take a break (before even starting)? UGH. I told her she could go to tutoring if she needed to and she said "I understand it. I just don't like it" so I told her that we obviously didn't have a problem then. It ended up taking her like 20 minutes to do it. She gets herself so worked up sometimes over silly things! SIGH, preteen girls.

While she did her homework I worked out on the Wii Fit and continued working on the laundry. Took a shower, made some Shake N Bake chicken for dinner, and then went to the church for that youth mission trip meeting. Casey didn't want to go with me. She was busy burying her head in a copy of the as yet unreleased 5th Twilight book (still is). She somehow managed to get a copy from school. I wanna read it when she's done.

It's funny how I was guessing the mission trip would be to the Dominican Republic or New Orleans or something, because it turns out to be in a town less than 3 hours from here. LOL, I guess if they are willing to take 12 year olds they probably can't go all that far. They are going to spend 5 days there renovating houses. When I got home and told Casey about it she said she wasn't interested. I'm not surprised... I can't even get her to go to movie night at the church with the youth group. Forget a 5 day trip! She only seemed interested when she thought they'd be going out of the country. So yay, I got to sit through an hour meeting about fundraising, etc. for nothing. Eh, whatever. It seemed to me that most of the kids going were in high school. I didn't see any kids there her age (I was one of very few parents who came without their child). And the leader went into this whole thing about how the town they are helping out is so bad, the cops wear bullet proof vests all the time and the kids can't stay there at night because it's too dangerous. Her point was that they need a lot of help, but what I got from it was hey, I'm not sure I want to send my kid there. Maybe when she's older she can go on one of the trips. I do think it would be a good experience for her.

Gotta go watch Desperate Housewives in my room in a bit because the DVR down here is busy with the Golden Globes and 24. Busy busy!

We have the same issues with leftovers. The Squid for some reason refuses to eat them, but that's gonna change. Until I get a job, I'm only cooking 3 days a week. For some reason when I try to make smaller meals for just 3 people instead of the normal army sized meals I've always cooked, they turn out wrong and yucky.

We also have a problem with the fridge and everything gets a funky taste after a few days. I can't wait until the new one gets here on Sunday. Hopefully that will help with some of the food issues.

I rearranged the kitchen today. I'm going to reorganize the living room tomorrow and catch up on laundry. We already have 4 boxes and 5 trash bags full of stuff to be donated to charity.

Yeah, I think the problem is there are only 2 of us, and barely that since she doesn't eat much. And she is a total leftover snob too. But yeah, things need to change. I definitely need to not waste food, as broke as I am lately. And if I don't follow a recipe to the T, something goes wrong and it comes out awful, so I get nervous about making less than it calls for.
